Position: Graduate Geophysicist/Geoscientist

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be required to perform a variety of roles within the company and the position is a mix of onshore and offshore working.

Onshore, the typical working week is 37.5 hours (with flexible hours) from our modern office in Lymington. The successful candidate should be prepared to travel and work offshore on a regular basis, typically 30-90 days per year, on a 12-hour shift pattern for 2-4 weeks at a time.

Supported by our experienced team, the successful candidate will develop their skill set to carry out the following tasks within our growing company:

  • Data acquisition, quality checking, processing, and interpretation of data from various survey systems including sub-bottom profiler, magnetometer, side scan sonar and multibeam bathymetry echosounder systems.
  • Calibration and maintenance of survey equipment.
  • Technical report writing & GIS charting.
  • Aiding with vessel equipment mobilisations.
  • Research of new technologies & techniques to keep Spectrum on the cutting edge for survey operations, data processing and data management.

Required education/experience & attributes:

  • Degree in a relevant subject such as Geophysics, Physics, Geology, Geoscience, Hydrography or similar.
  • Ability to quality check data with a keen eye for minor details.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
  • Willingness to work in the offshore marine environment away from home for several weeks at a time.
  • Ability to take initiative and work unsupervised.
  • An understanding of the importance of data management.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Full, valid UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Prior industry experience working within a marine survey or related role.
  • Programming/scripting knowledge (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
  • GIS knowledge and experience with GIS software (ArcGIS/QGIS).
  • An interest in offshore survey techniques, offshore energy & infrastructure.
  • Mindset for research and development.
  • Good practical skills (e.g., using tools).
